At the institutional level, CIELO has been collaborating with different institutions at the local, state, and federal levels by providing cultural awareness training to public servants. We engage in dialogues to discuss the cultural, linguistic, and social barriers Indigenous communities face in Los Angeles. We are taking an advocacy approach by empowering and professionalizing Indigenous interpreters who are on the front lines of ensuring that understanding is conveyed in hospitals, courtrooms, and other spaces where an Indigenous interpreter is needed.
The workshops aim to educate key service organizations, stakeholders, and community leaders on critical aspects of indigenous culture and migration in California, with the goal of increasing social awareness and improving service delivery and accessibility for this population.
If you would like to schedule a training for your institution, please contact Info@mycielo.org.
