Odilia Romero, Executive Director of Comunidades Indigenas en Liderazgo (CIELO) and Janet Martinez, program director of CIELO did their first Zoom presentation. They presented with the USC Keck Graduate Institute today in the a class about genetics. They touched on Indigenous peoples, the causes of forced displacement, barriers to access healthcare as well as best practices when working with interprets in Indigenous languages and how to find a linguistic match. CIELO is continuing their work from home due to the unprecedented COVID19 pandemic and continuing to advocate for indigenous communities wherever we can.
Tomorrow we will be hosting a zoom workshop for Indigenous interpreters and COVID-19 terms in partnership Al Otro Lado, and the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.
